Local Nature Recovery Strategy
Local Nature Recovery Strategies (LNRS) are a
new system of spatial strategies in England, introduced by the
Environment Act 2021, designed to support and plan for nature
recovery at the local level. They aim to map out actions needed to
restore nature by identifying priority areas for nature recovery,
creation or improvement of habitats, and support with wider
environmental goals. Development of LNRS is undertaken by
designated Responsible Authorities, such as County and Unitary
Councils, and involve collaboration with local stakeholders,
including landowners and farmers.
Oxfordshire County Council are the Responsible Authority for the
County, as such are lead on the Oxfordshire LNRS. Oxford City
Council (alongside the districts and other stakeholders) are
Supporting Authorities, and have fed in to the LNRS Process.
As the Strategy involves measures for the whole County, in order
for the LNRS to be signed off, all of the Supporting Authorities
are required to endorse the plan. Therefore Cabinet is requested to
endorse the plan, so that we may formally communicate this to the
County Council as required.
