Flying the Commonwealth Flag of Peace from the 1930s extension flagpole and ringing the bells at Carfax Tower on Commonwealth Day (13 March 2023).
Decision:
To fly the Commonwealth Flag of Peacefrom the 1930s extension flagpole and ring the bells at Carfax Tower on 13 March 2023.
Reasons for the decision:
To celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the signing of the Charter of the Commonwealth by the late Queen Elizabeth II.
Alternative options considered:
Not to fly the Commonwealth Flag of Peace or ring the bells at Carfax Tower and to instead fly the Flag of the Commonwealth of Nations. This option was rejected due to the importance of marking the 10th Anniversary of the signing of the Charter of the Commonwealth by the late Queen Elizabeth II.
