Improvements to visitors' Wi-Fi in Town Hall
Decision Maker: Executive Director (Communities & Customers) (Interim)
Decision status: Recommendations Approved
Is Key decision?: No
Is subject to call in?: No
Decision:
To increase the capacity of vistors’ Wi-Fi service to accommodate large groups of people using Wi-Fi and the internet in the Town Hall. A revenue sum of £15,000 has been allocated for this work.
Reasons for the decision:
The improvement to the visitors’ Wi-Fi capability within the Town Hall will result in:
· Wi-Fi performance improvement - additional access points that can be relocated from room to room as the need arises to support large events
· Cost-effective – overlaying this service with the existing Wi-Fi network provides supporting infrastructure that is up-to-date and provides a secure network that can be maintained at a fraction of the cost of building a separated commercial Wi-Fi solution
· Helping to promote the use of the Town Hall facilities to those seeking a large venue and attract a larger audience to the city centre.
