Decision details
Manzil Way Gardens Refurbishment
Decision Maker: Executive Director (Development)
Decision status: For Determination
Is Key decision?: No
Is subject to call in?: No
Purpose:
This decision was delegated to officers under
section 4.4 of the Constitution.
Following engagement with the local public and users of Manzil Way
Gardens it was decided to spend £50,000 to refurbish the
gardens . This will improve facilities, provide an open, flexible,
green space and provide a meeting place and focal point for Cowley
Road Carnival and other community events and activities whilst also
tackling antisocial behaviour.
Public engagement indicated that the garden should not be
overdeveloped.
Enhancing the gardens will encourage and increase legitimate use
and will contribute to the aims of the Community Impact Zone which
seeks to drive wide-ranging, positive change for the area.
Decision:
To spend £50,000 on refurbishment and
improvement of Manzil Way Gardens.
Alternative options considered:
The first option considered was to do nothing.
This option would include the replacement of damaged benches at a
cost of £3,000. Having carried out public consultation, there
is an expectation that further work would be carried out. Beyond
this, the gardens would continue to deteriorate and antisocial
behaviour would not be addressed. This option was therefore
discarded.
